NVQ Assessment

The Assessment Process

When you start your course with us you will complete a form to register with City and Guilds (our awarding body for CCLD). You will also be allocated either a work-based assessor or one from Chiltern Training Ltd.  When you are ready for assessment, which is usually at the end of the first term, you will arrange a visit with your assessor.  Whilst there he/she will watch you to confirm you are putting into practice the things you have been taught in college.

Your assessor may wish to ask you questions about your practice.  Your assessor has a large number of learners to work with and it is your responsibility to ensure you are prepared for him/her to visit by making the necessary arrangements at work and ensuring that work for the relevant units has been completed.

Obviously, your assessor cannot be with you every day and has to rely on you to keep records of some activities that you carry out in his/her absence.  This is known as evidence. Here are some examples of evidence:

  • Accounts of daily activities written in a log book
  • Observations made while working with the children
  • Minutes of staff meetings in which you have participated
  • Records of interactions with parents
  • Witness Statements – written confirmation from a qualified member of staff who has observed your performance at a particular activity
  • Reflective accounts - written accounts of activities you have taken part in at an earlier time
  • Examples of forms or records you have completed
  • Photographs of activities, if consent is obtained from your nursery

All of the above will be explained in more detail when you start training with us. Remember – If you have difficulty collecting your evidence or writing it down, please speak to a Tutor or your Training Co-ordinator.
