Building a portfolio
Guidelines for building your portfolio:

You will need 2 lever arch files, one for key skills and one for ERR, preferably in a plain colour.

The following details should be clearly marked on the front and on the spine
  • Your Name
  • Your PIN – this will be given to you
  • The level of the NVQ you are taking


You will need 6 dividers so that your portfolio can be put together in the following way:

 

Section 1

File layout:

  • Index
  • CV
  • Job Description
  • Personal Profile
  • Certificates

 

Section 2

Handbook with individual unit index

 

Section 3

  • DORs – records of observed performance recorded by your Assessor
  • Assessment Plans – which should be completed for each visit by you and your Assessor
  • Written answers to Assessor questions – both you and your Assessor should sign these and the date of completion recorded

Section 4

Index for section 4 to be cross-referenced to the unit (subdivide these)  Witness statements and reflective accounts – these should be numbered in the top right hand corner starting from number 1.  They should be signed by you and a qualified member of your team with the date of completion added.

 

Section 5

Index for section 5 to be cross-referenced to the unit.  All evidence and assignments set at college.  Work products such as minutes from staff meetings or day sheets can also be included in this section - again numbered in the top right hand corner starting at number 1.  All evidence in this section should be signed and dated by you when you complete it.   Subdivide work products

 

Section 6

Child observations

  • Please note that no evidence may be submitted if it has a child’s name on it, as this information should be kept confidential.
