Vocational qualifications whilst still at school under Increased Flexibility Scheme with TVU

Increased Flexibility

The Increased Flexibility programme has been established to encourage young people between the ages of 14 and 16 to extend their current learning programme by including vocational training.

To this end we are working in partnership with Thames Valley University and local Reading schools to offer the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Children’s Care, Learning and Development.

The aim of the programme is to raise awareness of career paths available within the Early Years and Playwork sectors and to provide young people with transferable occupational skills. The objective is to provide a qualification which can be used as either a stand alone qualification or as a stepping stone to Further and Higher Education.

Unit 002 Support the provision of safe and effective childcare environments
Unit 003 Supporting children and young person development
Unit 004 Supporting children's play and learning

Course Delivery

The course will be delivered over a two year period. In addition to a formal course of study, the programme will also involve practical work experience in local nursery placements.

All placements are registered with OfSTED and regularly monitored by our Training Co-ordinators and Health and Safety representatives.

The Level 2 CCLD can be accredited as a Technical Certificate and underpinning knowledge for the Apprenticeship programme, and also gives valuable experience and a qualification for those who wish to progress to teaching, nursing and related occupations, e.g. educational psychology, social work and nursery management. It will also provide valuable experience for those wishing to specialize in occupations for which children form part of the client base.
