Key Skills
Key skills are needed in every day life and now form part of the Apprenticeship Programme. Employers are increasingly seeking to employ people who can show competence in key skills, therefore it is important that you can meet their needs.

The key skills areas that you will cover with us are:
  • Application of Number
  • Communication
  • ICT (for ST&L learners only)

You will be required to produce evidence to show your competence in these areas and sessions will be set aside for this work.  You may also be required to sit a test.  You will be informed of this during your initial assessment process.  Support will be provided to help you achieve your key skills.

The reason that we include key skills as part of our qualification framework is because you will then have evidence for prospective employers that you have the necessary skills in literacy and numeracy to do your job in the school or nursery. These skills are a vital part of any job, as well as outside of work, and you will find yourself using basic skills in these areas every day.

If you have a grade A-C in Maths or English GCSE, you may be exempt
