Student Probation Policy for Programme Led Apprentices

Learner Probation Policy

Policy Objective

In order to ensure that staff’s time and effort is spent on learners who are committed to their chosen course, learners on our Programme Led Apprenticeship will be subject to a six week probation period, during which they will need to achieve certain targets in order to remain on the course. These are:

  • Punctuality and attendance – 80% attendance and 90% punctuality is expected, both at nursery and at college, with authorisation for any absences and lateness
  • Attitude – a willingness to work and respect for CTL and nursery staff must be demonstrated
  • Attendance at an induction session
  • Completion of Induction Checklist
  • Performance in the nursery
  • Completion of ERR
  • Completion of  Performance Evidence Record

Towards the end of the six week probation period, learners will be interviewed by either the Head of Curriculum or  the Managing Director to ascertain whether they will be retained or not.

Before the interview takes place, a simple Probation Period Review Form will be completed for each learner. There will be a section for the admin staff, teaching staff, the Training Co-ordinator and the nursery manager to complete. The final section will be completed by the interviewer who will consider all the evidence and make a decision on whether or not the learner shall be retained.

If a learner is deemed unsuitable for retention by the interviewer, the Director of Training will make a final decision as to whether or not to allow the learner to continue with CTL.
